Although we enjoy the Academy Awards every year, we always walk away with a sour taste in our mouths. Today I will continue my series on the Oscar winners. I will share my thoughts on who won, who should’ve won and who should’ve been nominated.
The first race I am going to tackle is the 2004 Best Picture race.
Here were the 5 films nominated for Best Picture.
- Million Dollar Baby
- Finding Neverland
- Ray
- Sideways
- The Aviator
Who Won?
A determined woman works with a hardened boxing trainer to become a professional.
Million Dollar Baby was nominated for 7 Academy Awards and the film took home 4 Oscars including Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Picture.
Who Should Have Won?: Million Dollar Baby
Honestly, this was a hard decision. Sideways, The Aviator and Million Dollar Baby were are very good films and would not have hated either of the three taking home the top prize.
Baby just hit a little deeper, Swank just gave this phenomenal unforgettable performance that you couldn’t help but root her on throughout the entire film. Factor in the two great performances out of Freeman and Eastwood, just beautiful film.
Who Should Have Been Nominated?: The Terminal
Tom Hanks and being stranded is a thing that goes hand in hand in movies. The Terminal was no different. Hanks played Viktor Navorski an Eastern European tourist who found himself stranded in the JFK airport. Anyone that has ever been at the airport understands how awful that sounds. The production design, they built a full-size replica airport in a hangar in LA. The story, was a beautiful heartfelt dramedy. The acting, Hanks gave one of the best performances of his career in this film.
The movie did everything right and it belong amongst the five.
Who would you have picked as the winner? And what film was missing from being nominated?
