Luke Evans Signs On To Play Another Disney Villain In Robert Zemeckis’s ‘PINOCCHIO’

According to Deadline, Luke Evans, has joined Pinocchio. Evans will play “The Coachman” alongside Tom Hanks as Geppetto. This is not the first time Evans has played a villain in a Disney film. He portrayed Gaston in the 2017 film, Beauty and the Beast.

In the 1940 animated film, The Coachman was one of the villains of the film.  He is a sinister, shadowy figure who is notorious for luring “stupid little boys” to Pleasure Island, where they are transformed into donkeys and sold on the black market.

Announced at the Disney Investors day event in December, the film follows the classic story of the wooden puppet Pinocchio who is brought to life by the elderly woodcarver Geppetto (Tom Hanks)  and sets out, alongside Jiminy Cricket, to prove that he is more than a puppet and is a real boy.

It is unknown what new directions Robert Zemeckis and his writing partner Chris Weitz will go in this adaptation of the story. As more casting announcements come in more plot details are sure to arrive as well. There is also the Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio film in development that will see Ewan McGregor voice Jiminy Cricket.
