Mark Hamill Joins History Channel’s ‘Knightfall’ for 2nd Season

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2613″ img_size=”668×416″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]It has been almost seven months after the last airing of an original episode of The History Channel’s Knightfall. The good news for fans of the program is it has finally been picked up for a second season.

History renewed the medieval drama, while at the same time bringing in some new blood. Mark Hamill has agreed to join the cast in a recurring role, while Aaron Helbing has come on board as the new showrunner.

Knightfall’s renewal comes after a solid first year run in the winter, that saw live-plus-3 viewership average over 2 million viewers. The first season was from A+E Studios, in association with Midnight Radio and Jeremy Renner’s The Combine production companies, while the showrunner for Knightfall’s first season was Dominic Minghella.

Knightfall is a period drama that follows the famed Knights Templar in their search for the Holy Grail. Hamill will play the role of Talus, a veteran of the Crusades who survived a decade in captivity. Tom Forbes and Genevieve Gaunt are also joining the cast, one that’s already toplined by Tom Cullen.

“In the face of ever-increasing competition, we’re proud of History’s track record of producing signature drama series that are epic in scope with complex characters,” History programming executive vp Eli Lehrer said Monday in a statement. “Whether it’s the legendary Knights Templar, the extraordinary tale of medieval Norsemen, or the story of a formerly classified United States Air Force program investigating UFOs during the Cold War, these series reflect our commitment to bringing the defining, big canvas stories of history to life. We look forward to offering our viewers a grittier, darker Knightfall in season two and welcoming Mark to the cast.”

Even with Knightfall’s renewal, the number of original scripted series on the History Channel remains a small sample at best. When you subtract the recently cancelled military drama Six, Knightfall joins Vikings, along with  their new entry Blue Book set to premier later this year as the only series that History has in production. If you are a fan of Knightfall, does the addition of Mark Hamill heighten your anticipation for the new season or if you are not a fan will Hamill’s participation make you want to check it out? It makes me intrigued to see it. Give us your thoughts at GVNation.
