Mark Millar Launching Netflix Comic Series ‘Prodigy’

When most people think of Netflix it is about streaming and creating original content, but would you be surprised to know that they publish comic books too? I know I was. That’s where Mark Millar and Albuquerque come in. On December 5th, the duo will be releasing issue #1 of Prodigy under the Millarworld/Netflix banner. Prodigy is the story about the worlds smartest man, Edison Crane, who wants more in life than just running a successful business.

When questioned about his new project, Millar was noticeably excited about the endeavor and challenge for himself to write such a ‘smart’ character:

“I wanted to write the smartest thing I’ve ever written and at the same time top any action set pieces I’ve ever managed in the past and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how this has turned out. Edison Crane is by far the best character I’ve created in my career and I’m delighted that my genius friend [Rafael] Albuquerque is drawing the comic book side of all this. He’s really one of the best artists in the world.”

Millar’s other properties like Wanted, Kick-Ass & Kingsmen have been adapted for film in the past so there are possibilities that Prodigy will follow that trend. This could be good news for Netflix seeing as they will be losing some of their superhero content to Disney’s new streaming service when it releases in 2019.

Here is the synopsis of Prodigy from Netflix

His brilliant mind needs constant challenge and so he’s become the go-to guy for governments around the world when a problem arises they just can’t handle. A Nobel Prize-winning scientist, a genius composer, an Olympic-level athlete and an expert in the occult, Edison Crane is as addicted to the mysteries of the world as he is to sitting at the top of the Fortune 500. These are the tales of the world’s most exceptional man and this story marks his first published adventure. (Kind of sounds like a mix of Tony Stark and the guy from the Dos Equis commercial: “I’m the most interesting man in the world.”)

Should NetFlix be thinking as this as a possible replacement for some of their soon to be missing Marvel content? If Millar’s track record is any indication, it could be something they could successfully adapt. What do you are loyal followers think? Be the program director and tell us at GVNation.
