Matt Reeves Discusses ‘THE BATMAN’ at DC FanDome

What a day! Wonder Woman 1984 gets a new trailer, the Gotham Knights game reveal from WBGames Montreal, the reveal of Ezra Miller’s new suit for the Flash, a Snyder Cut trailer, Black Adam details, the Suicide Squad movie and game, and how do they finish out the event? The one and only Batman, ladies and gentlemen. Robert Pattinson himself introduced the final panel of DC’s event, making sure to mention that you should stick around until the end before host Aisha Tyler and director Matt Reeves started in on questions.

Matt Reeves spoke at length about the upcoming film, the Batman, and how he and rest of the crew have been trying to make something new that no one has ever seen before with this very familiar character. Even down to the design of Gotham city, which is going to be a mix of London and CGI to add some of the more towering structures. This movie is shaping up to be an incredibly unique Batman experience.

Reeves went on to say that this movie is going to focus on corruption mentioning classic films Chinatown and French Connection as inspiration for the type of detective story they wanted to tell. As the interview went on Reeves was noticeably giddy with anticipation, and for good reason. As the close of the event, we got a stunning teaser trailer that gives us our first real look at Pattinson in action as Batman. Even if only about a third of the movie is finished filming, I am absolutely sold on this one.

The trailer opens to the sounds of tape being torn and we see a face with “No more lies.” Next we see Jeffery Wright as Jim Gordon lead us directly into the scene with a frightening voiceover before cutting to a shot of Batman…and it looks sublime. Everything is magnificent.

What follows are several establishing shots, but the most important is the Batcave. It looks similar to V’s Shadow Gallery but more sparse. We get some gritty shots of a car crashing into a crowded building, fights between our titular hero and both clown-faced hoodlums and the police, Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, and hints at a mystery for Batman to solve in the form of letters left on various murder victims.

Check out the trailer for yourself and get pumped! I can’t wait for this movie or the show set in the same Gotham coming to HBOMax. Such good stuff coming our way.
