For those of you hoping to see a ‘Year One’ adaptation on the big screen, it appears Matt Reeves has dashed your hopes. During his appearance on a Television Critics Association Panel, Reeves stated the following:

“We’re not doing any particular [comic]. Year One is one of the many comic books that I love. We are definitely not doing Year One. It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him. Obviously we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We’re doing a story that is definietely Batman through and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman.” Year One is the comic book depicting the first year of Batman being a crime fighter, and is revered among comic book fans. However, it seems that Reeves isn’t the one to direct a film based on the iconic series.

In regards to the timeline of the draft being completed, Reeves said “We are working on getting our draft in the next couple of weeks. Right now, my head is totally into the script. Right now, I’m going to be leaving here to go back to work on the script.” It seems to me that we’re getting closer and closer to the film being ready, which is very exciting. Later on in the panel, Reeves said he hopes to begin shooting by spring or early summer of 2019.

Reeves also stated in the panel that this film would take us into the heart of Gotham city as Batman investigates a particular case. He also said this will not be a continuation of the Nolan directed films either.

Are you excited for another Batman movie? Or is all the Ben Affleck drama wearing you out? Let us know in the comments below.

A few of my favorite things include my pet dragon (Drogon), Game of Thrones, Disney movies and theme parks, the MCU, DC movies, Star Wars, sports, and my rather large Funko Pop collection. Daenerys Targaryen is my queen, Robert Downey Jr is my man crush, and Simba is my spirit animal.
