[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”25455″ img_size=”800×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]It looks like Melissa McCarthy may be preparing to take on the task of helping poor unfortunate souls in the upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid.

According to Variety, McCarthy is in early talks to play the sea witch Ursula in the live-action adaptation of  The Little Mermaid. Though the deal is not yet complete, this could be a major step forward towards the development of Disney’s next live-action installment.

Though no other casting announcement has been made, the hype surrounding this film is already starting to build up. Variety tells us that, “Disney and the production team behind it are looking to make contemporary and compelling casting choices, while still paying homage to the beloved animated original”.

Directing this film is Rob Marshall, who is a notable film and theater director who recently led another Disney project, Mary Poppins Returns. The live-action remake will pay homage to the original songs from the 1989 animated classic as well as introduce some new songs from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The Little Mermaid live-action version is hoping to start on production as soon as early 2020.
