Mick Foley, the WWE Hall of Famer, recently shared intriguing details about his discussions with AEW’s MJF regarding a potential final wrestling match. Foley, who initially planned to have one last match to celebrate his 60th birthday in June 2025, ultimately decided against it due to health concerns, including dizziness and lightheadedness. After consulting with doctors, Foley discovered that these symptoms were likely related to a concussion.

During a panel at Nickel City Comic-Con, Foley reflected on his plans for this final match, revealing that he had seriously considered MJF as his opponent. According to Foley, MJF, a former AEW World Champion, had meticulously crafted a storyline that would have spanned six weeks of television leading up to the match. Foley expressed confidence in MJF’s ability to deliver, noting that MJF could have expertly worked around his physical limitations and highlighted his strengths.

“When I was thinking of having that last match, I’ll tell you what—there were no shortage of people from every promotion reaching out to me,” Foley shared. “But one guy I probably would have gone with was MJF because he’d clearly done some thinking about it and lined out six great weeks of TV. We didn’t take a photo together because we didn’t want to ruin the secret meeting, but I heard what he had to say, and I really liked it. I had no doubt that he would have pulled it off perfectly. He’s so good and in his prime that he could have worked around my weaknesses and played to my strengths, and I think we could have done something pretty cool. MJF. Final answer. Take that, Matt Cardona,” Foley concluded.

Foley’s last in-ring appearance was during the 2012 Royal Rumble match, and while the idea of one final bout was enticing, his health ultimately took precedence, leading him to call off the plans. The wrestling world, however, was left with a tantalizing “what if” scenario, imagining what could have been if Foley had stepped into the ring one last time with MJF.
