While trying to salvage her career and rehabilitate her tarnished reputation, a disgraced journalist (Lily Sullivan) begins digging into a strange conspiracy theory via a controversial new investigative podcast. But as the evidence begins leading uncomfortably close to home, she will be forced to grapple with the web of lies at the heart of her own story.

Video Quality
Monolith comes to Blu-Ray with a strong AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.00:1. The film employs a cooler aesthetic which this transfer brings to life capably. Black levels could dig slightly deeper, but there is not much in the way of crush. Highlights likewise hold firm with no blooming at play. Skin tones are natural throughout with appreciable detail on display. Where the transfer shines is the impressive level of clarity in some of the most unexpected aspects of the house. Even small facets provide texture that is impeccably defined here. The picture is mostly clear with only brief instances of murkiness during a few darker scenes. The film does deliver some softer shots for creative reasons on occasion, but nothing that would detract from the viewing experience. Well Go USA has put forth some good work here.
Audio Quality
The film arrives on Blu-Ray with a really good DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track. The movie delivers a pretty immersive soundscape with environmental elements that bring the most out of the atmosphere. The low end of the track gets more active during key moments that need to dig deep. Dialogue and sound effects are appropriately balanced with the score where nothing feels murky in the track. Surround channels get some welcome activity throughout the house. This track executes everything it needs to and will be appreciated by fans who pick up this disc. There are optional English SDH subtitles provided.
Special Features
- Audio Commentary: Director Matt Vesely, writer Lucy Campbell, and producer Bettina Hamilton provide a good commentary track in which they discuss how the film was developed in a low-budget film lab, how the story evolved from the initial idea, the motivations behind certain creative choices, what they learned during filming, shooting mostly sequentially, and more.
- Behind The Scenes: An eight-minute piece in which the cast and creative team discuss the ideas behind the narrative, what attracted the performers to the project, the sci-fi elements, the psychological state of the character, and more.
- Trailer: The two-and-a-half-minute trailer is provided for Monolith. There are also trailers provided for Sting, A Creature Was Stirring, and Your Lucky Day.
Final Thoughts
Monolith is a terrific low-budget thriller that never feels as if it compromising due to its budget constrictions. The narrative feels appropriately claustrophobic as you go down the rabbit hole with our main character where nothing seems to make sense. Lily Sullivan is a riveting screen presence that never overplays the moment. If you love a slow burn of psychological dread, you will be feasting well on this one. Well Go USA Entertainment has delivered a great A/V presentation and a small selection of special features. If the premise sounds promising to you, don’t skip this gem. Recommended
Monolith will be available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD on April 23, 2024.
