What circulates as a price is therefore a claim: the buyer said so, the seller said so, or a broker announced it. Some are credible and corroborated. Others are marketing. Treat every figure below as reported rather than confirmed.
Case Hardened Blue Gems
The highest reported sales in Counter-Strike history are Case Hardened knives with exceptional blue patterns. A Karambit Case Hardened with a near-perfect blue playside has been reported at over a million dollars, and several other blue gem knives have been claimed in the mid six figures.
These are the extreme tail of the pattern system. Case Hardened applies a randomised heat treatment, the blue is the valuable part, and a handful of specific pattern indexes produce copies where blue dominates. The scarcity is genuine — a given index on a given knife may exist in single figures.

M4A4 Howl
The Howl is the only contraband skin in the game. Valve removed it from circulation in 2014 after a copyright dispute over the artwork, meaning no new copies can ever enter the market.
Factory New examples with low floats trade in the high five figures. Its value rests on the cleanest possible form of scarcity: a fixed, permanently closed supply that no update can reopen.
What Changed in 2025
This list looks very different from how it would have looked three years ago, and the reason is a single update.
In October 2025, Valve allowed knives and gloves to be crafted through trade-up contracts. Knife prices fell by half or more within days and an estimated two billion dollars of paper value disappeared from the market. Items that had been the most expensive in the game were suddenly manufacturable.
What survived were the items that could not be crafted: specific rare patterns, contraband skins, and stickered souvenirs tied to particular matches. Scarcity that depends on a drop rate turned out to be fragile. Scarcity that depends on an item being genuinely one of a kind did not.
Why These Prices Exist at All
None of these skins does anything. They confer no advantage, they are visible mainly to the person holding the weapon, and they exist entirely at the discretion of a company that can change their properties whenever it wants.
What they have is provable scarcity, a liquid market and a community that agrees they matter.
