Amelia Dolan is a college dropout who moved from Nevada to pursue her dream of acting. She despises going on auditions and is still waiting for her big break. The one and only Emma Stone plays Mia’s role in this movie.

Whiplash (2014)

Whiplash is another movie written and directed by Damien Chazelle. The same director of La La Land wrote this movie based on his experience in Princeton High School Studio Band. The film centres on Miles Teller, a promising jazz drummer who enrols at an esteemed music conservatory. Miles tries to earn the respect of his teacher (played by J.K. Simmons) in this strict school.

Miles Teller played the role of Andrew Neiman. Andrew has played the drums at such a young age and aspires to be just like his idol, Buddy Rich. With the utmost focus and passion, Andrew practices the drums until his hands bled and even breaks up with his partner to focus on the local jazz competition. The film portrays the question most individuals in their 20s ask themselves, “what do we do with the time we have left?” With so much going on in the characters’ lives, including an AIDS epidemic in the artist community, Jonathan Larson has troubles with his friendship with Michael.

You can see how the characters’ lives revolve around music throughout the film, especially Jon. Also, the conflict part of the movie shows Larson playing the piano while pondering on his future and his friendship with Michael, who Robin de Jesus plays.

Green Book (2018)

This movie was directed by Peter Farrelly, set in 1962, featuring a tour through Deep South. The film centres on African-American jazz and classical pianist Dr. Don Shirley and Tony Lip. Green Book is based on a true story, making it more fulfilling to watch! Tony Lip tries to search for a new job and finds himself in an interview with Dr. Don Shirley. Dr. Don needs a driver for his eight-week concert tour from the Midwest to the Deep South.

Indeed, Don (played by Mahershala Ali) hired Tony (played by Viggo Mortensen) due to his incredible resume. After this, they embark on an eight-week journey with a bouncer and a pianist. The film depicts their journey and friendship and shows Tony’s amazement with Don’s craft in music.

School of Rock (2003)

Paramount Pictures released a comedy film that’s composed by Mike White and produced by Richard Linklater on October 3, 2003. The film features Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, Mike White, and Joan Cusack. The film focuses on a struggling rock guitar player, Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black), forced out of his own rock band.

Dewey is a replacement teacher in a private and esteemed prep school. After observing the student’s musical talent, the temporary teacher tries to form a rock band composed of fourth-graders. Dewey created this band to succeed in the contest, “Battle of the Bands,” to pay his rent.

Jack Black was honoured and commended for his humour and incredible acting as a guitarist in the film, praising reviews from numerous critics. This movie is a must-add to one’s watchlist!
