Narcos: Mexico EP Says Season Two is About the “Fall of an Empire”

We are only a few days away from the second season people of Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico. The perfect Valentine’s Day gift; get ready to submerge yourself back into the work of Felix Gallardo and the Guadalajara Cartel. In season one, we watched Diego Luna’s Felix rise to the top, while shoving friends and family to the side. Felix also got where he was by killing Kiki Camarena (played by Michael Pena), which will have consequences in season two.

What can we expect in season two, after the events of season one’s finale? EP Eric Newman says season two is:

“Very much about an empire collapsing as Félix desperately tries to hang on to it and all of the princes who serve under him get restless.”

Newman explained:

“These guys believed that they were truly above the law. But they overestimated their power when they killed an American DEA agent, and that prompted an emotional response from the United States.”

One of the driving forces of the United States’ emotional response is Scoot McNairy’s Walt Breslin. This fictional DEA agent represents the type of agent that was being sent to Mexico at the time. McNairy served as the first season’s unnamed narrator, but now he has a much larger role in season two. What does Breslin bring to the table? Newman says the character:

“Brings a bare-knuckle [style] to law enforcement that we haven’t seen before. It’s time to take the gloves off, and it’s time for a no-holds-barred approach.”

Narcos: Mexico Season Two hits Netflix on February 13.
