You have probably heard of the controversy surrounding Netflix’s film ‘Cuties’. The French film that follows an eleven-year-old girl living in Paris who ends up joining a dance crew. This is putting it lightly.
Now the streaming service is facing a criminal charge for lewd visual material depicting a child. The grand jury indictment was filed on September 23rd in Tyler County, Texas. This indictment states that Netflix:
“Promoted, distributed, and exhibited material which ‘depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age’ for the “prurient interest in sex.”
The indictment also states that the film does not contain any:
“Literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.”
Netflix has released a statement:
“‘Cuties’ is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. This charge is without merit and we stand by the film.”
What do you think about Netflix standing by ‘Cuties’? As well as the indictment filed?
