Today, Netflix announced the addition of a dozen actors to its upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.
The Official Cast:
- Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place) as Death, “Dream’s wiser, nicer sister.”
- Mason Alexander Park (Cowboy Bebop) as Desire, “Dream’s sibling and everything you want.”
- Donna Preston (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) as Despair, “Desire’s twin and Dream’s sister.”
- Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) as Johanna Constantine, “an 18th-century occult adventures (and the great-great-great-grandmother of John Constantine).”
- Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) as Ethel Cripps, “a woman of a hundred identities and a thousand lies”
- Niamh Walsh (The English Game) as Young Ethel Cripps.
- David Thewlis (Harry Potter) as John Dee, “Ethel’s insane, dangerous son who’s on a quest for truth.”
- Kyo Ra as Rose Walker, “a young woman on a desperate search for her missing brother, who finds a connection to Dream neither of them can escape”
- Stephen Fry (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) as Gilbert, “Rose’s debonair protector”
- Razane Jammal (Paranormal) as Lyta Hall, “Rose’s friend and a widow mourning the loss of her husband.”
- Sandra James Young (Eastenders) as Unity Kinkaid, “Rose’s mysterious benefactor”
- Patton Oswalt (Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.) as the voice of Matthew the Raven, “Dream’s trusted emissary.”
They join Tom Sturridge (Dream), Gwendolyn Christie (Lucifer), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Cain), Amid Chaudry (Abel), Charles Dance (Roderick Burgess), Vivienne Acheampong (Lucienne), and Boyd Holbrook (The Corinthian).
When Can We Expect to See It?
The first season of The Sandman is currently filming. The Netflix series is adapting the comic’s first arcs—”Preludes and Nocturnes” and “The Doll’s House.” Neil Gaiman executive produces, alongside David Goyer, and Allan Heinberg (the series’ showrunner). There’s been no release date despite the series being expected to air in 2021.
