When people are debating which Transformers cartoons are the best, there are many to choose from. While my personal favorite is Transformers: Prime, you see others rally hard for the Animated series, Transformers: Armada, and mostly, the original G1 series. Frankly, there’s so many to choose from and each of them have different aspects that appeal to different audiences. Whether you love the old-school shows, are a big fan of Beast Wars, or you like the new stuff, there’s a Transformers show for everyone.
Some of the recent Transformers shows are Robots in Disguise (2015), Cyberverse, and Earthspark. There’s a lot of debate as to whether or not these shows are good or bad. And while I have not personally watched too much of the previous three mention, I always see one Transformers project forgotten when ranking lists are put together. And I personally don’t see why.
War for Cybertron Trilogy
The War for Cybertron Trilogy hit Netflix in between 2020 and 2021 and consisted of three different chapters named Siege, Earthrise, and Kingdom. We start on Cybertron during the war and end up on Earth, where we meet fan-favorite characters like the Maximals from Beast Wars. Despite these shows coming out within the last three years, they barely get spoken about, and I think that needs to change.
I’ve recently watched the trilogy and was very pleased with what I saw. I think sometimes, we need to push aside our love for one show, and go into a new show with fresh eyes. For example, some people can’t get over how something was done or how a character was portrayed in one show, and therefore cannot accept change. As stated before, I love Transformers: Prime. In my opinion, it’s peak Transformers, and I really wish Robots in Disguise kept up with the art style and character design – as that one was an actual sequel to Prime.
I Give It a Thumbs Up
However, the War for Cybertron trilogy has great artwork and a great story. I personally loved seeing Megatron and Optimus Prime’s past fleshed out in Siege. Megatron was written incredibly well and there’s multiple scenes that I think stand out well from him. In addition, Ultra Magnus, Jetfire, and Elita-1 were standouts for me. And I really liked how they tackled Elita-1 and Optimus Prime’s relationship. While I’ve seen some criticism over the speech in the show, but I didn’t mind how any of the characters spoke.
Earthrise admittedly wasn’t my favorite and the weakest entry in the trilogy, but I believe Siege and Kingdom are worthy of your time. It’s certainly a darker and more adult version of the Transformers franchise that doesn’t lose the appeal Transformers has for children. The character designs are faithful to their G1 counterparts and there’s a lot of Transformers lore here.
So, when you’re wondering which Transformers show is worth watching or what Transformers show trumps the other, consider giving War for Cybertron a chance. I think you might like it and I hope there’s more discussion on this show within the Transformers community.
