Screenwriter for the upcoming film Greg Russo has confirmed last night that it will be R-rated due to the addition of the game’s iconic fatalities. “Since it’s already been stated by other members of the team, I’m going to put this one to bed,” he tweeted out. “MK WILL be R-rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I’m not gonna say which ones). You’ll just have to wait for the movie & see!!! ;).”
The James Wan produced film has already found its Sub-Zero in The Raid: Redemption‘s Joe Taslim and will begin filming later this year in Australia.
Mortal Kombat is scheduled to hit theaters on March 5, 2021.
