If you haven’t heard, Mortal Kombat is getting the live-action movie treatment. And it has officially found its Sub-Zero! Cast in the role, actor and martial artist Joe Taslim is set to play the character. The Mortal Kombat movie will be under James Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, with Simon McQuoid directing. Todd Garner will produce and Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins will serve as executive producers.
Mortal Kombat has been a popular game since its release in 1992. Typically centering around a melee of fighters ready to tear each other apart, it will be interesting to see what Greg Russo’s current screenplay entails.
This isn’t the first time Mortal Kombat has been adapted, with a 1995 and 1997 version. Sub-Zero was one of the original characters in the 1992 game and if you haven’t guessed, his attacks involve ice. His character also has a long-running rivalry with Scorpion, so I’m sure that will be something touched upon in the film.
Are you looking forward to Mortal Kombat and what do you think of Taslim’s casting?
