While actor Bradley Cooper has helped bring the character Rocket the Raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise to life, it seems the actor is not interested in the possibility of directing the third and presumably final installment. The question arose due to Cooper’s new stint as a director, with his film with Lady Gaga, A Star is Born; garnering positive views. The third GotG has no director yet since the firing of James Gunn and even though I would still love Taika Waititi to take over, it seems that hasn’t happened yet.
When asked about directing GotG Vol 3, Cooper responded:
“In directing it?. I could never direct anything that I didn’t write. No, I could never direct anything that I didn’t write.”
Even though Gunn was let go, it does seem his script will be used, according to his brother Sean, who also appears in the movies:
“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with Guardians 3,” Sean Gunn told Tulsa World. “I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”
There is no date for the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie and with all of this, something really tragic is looming over the air. The GotG franchise was one of the most beloved in the MCU and one of the most exciting and anticipated aspects of Avengers: Infinity War was finally bringing the Guardians into the Avengers’ world. Now, we have a movie in hiatus and actors, such as Dave Bautista; eager to leave due to the bad taste Disney has left. Ultimately, Sean would love for the movie to still be made, despite the fact that his brother will not be involved.
“Honestly, that’s really what I cared about more than anything with all of this,” he said. “I don’t want the fans to be deprived of something that they really love and really want. I go, and I do these conventions and a really striking thing to me … is fans are basically split into two camps. There is one group that is super supportive of my brother and range from sad to angry about what happened. And then the other half are people who don’t know and don’t care. They just want to see the movie.”
Here is hoping we do get a third installment with everyone in it and in the meantime, we can still see everyone’s favorite “a-holes” in Guardians of the Galaxy volumes 1 and 2, as well as Avengers: Infinity War.
