    No Streaming Required: Physical Media Spotlight For The Week Of August 18th

    For the week of August 18th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.     This week, we spotlight the 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of Quentin Tarantino’s long-fabled Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair starring Uma Thurman courtesy of Lionsgate. This new combined cut of a fan favorite comes in Dolby Vision with an additional animated short created for the theatrical release. We have another major 4K UHD upgrade from Warner Bros. as the sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks! from director Tim Burton arrives with a new 4K restoration in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio and two new featurettes.

    MVD Entertainment celebrates legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese with the 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of New York, New York from a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative of the Extended Cut in HDR10. The film starring Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro as a pair of musicians and lovers comes with interviews, deleted scenes, making-of documentaries, and more. The label also goes in the opposite side of the spectrum with the 4K UHD release of Death Warrant starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. The release has been restored in 4K from the Original Camera Negative in HDR10, and it comes with a commentary track, interviews, and more.

    Paramount has a pair of fetching SteelBook releases hitting 4K UHD Blu-Ray, beginning with the Val Kilmer covert action adventure tale The Saint and extending to the WWII sniper drama Enemy at the Gates starring Jude Law and Rachel Weisz. The label also has a standard release of Robert Altman’s comic adaptation Popeye starring Robin Williams. All three releases are presented in Dolby Vision and include their previously released supplemental features.

    The fine individuals at Deaf Crocodile continue to be saviors of overlooked and unconventional cinema with an eclectic slate of gems. First up, we have indulge in some silent-era cinema with Czech Silent Genre Rarities from Director Jan S. Kolár featuring The Arrival from the Darkness and St. Wenceslas on Blu-Ray. Both of these films have been restored and are presented alongside six other short films from the director, commentary tracks, and more. The label also has another double feature with the Cat City Collection featuring Cat City and Catcher: Cat City 2 on Blu-Ray with commentary tracks, short films, interviews, video essays, and more.

    Arrow Video has an amazing slate this month, beginning with the Miloš Forman biopic The People vs. Larry Flynt starring Woody Harrelson as the controversial founder of Hustler magazine. The 4K UHD Blu-Ray release comes from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. They also have the 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of the James Mangold psychological thriller Identity from a 4K scan of the 35mm Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. These releases include commentary tracks, interviews, and more. 

    The label also has the martial arts film Shogun’s Ninja on Blu-Ray from an HD master provided by Toei. The release is provided with the original Japanese audio, as well as an English dub, a commentary track, and more. If you loved The Odyssey and need more epic storytelling in your life, Arrow has you covered with the Wolfgang Petersen blockbuster Troy starring Brad Pitt debuting on 4K UHD Blu-Ray. Both the Theatrical Cut and the Director’s Cut have been restored in 4K with Dolby Vision and a host of supplemental features.
