For the week of January 7th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.
This week we spotlight a long-awaited 4K UHD Blu-Ray upgrade as the Diane Keaton drama Looking For Mr. Goodbar finally gets a loving release from Vinegar Syndrome. The impressive 4K restoration from the Original Camera Negative is presented in Dolby Vision with the original mono plus an array of special features including an audio commentary, interviews, a visual essay, and more. The label also has the ’90s erotic thriller Sliver starring Sharon Stone arriving on 4K UHD Blu-Ray. The film is presented uncut and remastered from the Original Camera Negative with Dolby Vision and a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track. The release features some new interviews you will not want to miss.
We also have some big releases from The Criterion Collection arriving on 4K UHD Blu-Ray. First up with have the beloved initial collaboration between director Anthony Mann and star James Stewart in the Western outing Winchester ’73. The film has been given a 4K restoration from the Original Camera Negative and is presented in 4K UHD in SDR with some special features including a commentary track, new interviews, and more. We also have the Richard Pryor dramedy Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling in which the comedian pulls double duty as both star and director. The film has been given a 4K restoration from the Original Camera Negative and is presented in Dolby Vision with a new interview and a classic talk show episode. Finally, we have Stephen Frears neo-noir The Grifters starring John Cusack, Anjelica Huston, and Annette Bening. The film has been given a 4K restoration from the Original Camera Negative and is presented in Dolby Vision with a new interview with Bening along with archival special features.
It is a huge week for Arrow Video as they unleash some impressive 4K UHD releases. One of the biggest releases of the month is the 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of The Cell. The Jennifer Lopez psychological thriller is getting the upgrade it deserves with a new 4K remaster of the Original Camera Negative with Dolby Vision of both the theatrical and unrated cut along with new special features, including a version of the film with an open-matte aspect ratio that fans will not want to miss. They put in a similar effort with the folk chiller Incubus newly on 4K UHD Blu-Ray derived from a 4K restoration of the last known surviving print of the film with Dolby Vision and new special features that fans will not want to miss. Finally, the Quentin Tarantino classic Inglourious Basterds gets a deluxe release with the film in HDR10, impressive packaging, and both new and archival special features.
The good folks at Kino Lorber Studio Classics have once again proven released a varied array of 4K UHD Blu-Ray upgrades fans will want to scoop up. John Wayne fans have been given a nice upgrade of his classic Howard Hawks collaboration Hatari! with a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision and a new commentary track. They also offer up a pair of sleazy ’90s thrillers including the Richard Gere and Andy Garcia cop drama Internal Affairs. The release comes newly remastered from a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision and some great archival special features including multiple interviews and a commentary track. Finally, we have the Brian De Palma and Nicolas Cage team-up Snake Eyes newly remastered from a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision with a new commentary track.
