First up, Lionsgate Limited has the sci-fi thriller The Arrival starring Charlie Sheen debuting on 4K UHD Blu-Ray from a new 4K master in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio. The release comes with new featurettes, along with a commentary track, a making-of documentary, and more.
Arrow Video comes to play this month with the hotly anticipated release of the crime thriller Falling Down starring Michael Douglas on 4K UHD Blu-Ray restored from the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. This release comes with a commentary track, interviews, featurettes, and more. This is far from the only star-driven vehicle getting the A+ treatment this month, as the Charlton Heston dystopian tale Soylent Green has been restored in 4K from the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. Supplements include multiple commentary tracks, interviews, featurettes, and more.
They also have the crime drama The Outfit starring Robert Duvall debuting on Blu-Ray from a 2K restoration of the 35mm Original Camera Negative. The release comes with an option to view the film with an alternate ending, a commentary track, featurettes, and more. East meets west in the entertaining spaghetti western outing Red Sun starring Charles Bronson, Toshirō Mifune, Alain Delon, and Ursula Andress. The new 4K UHD Blu-Ray has been restored in 4K by StudioCanal in Dolby Vision with a commentary track, video essay, featurettes, and more.
It’s a strong month for Asian cinema, including Zhang Yimou’s directorial debut Red Sorghum on Blu-Ray courtesy of Whole Grain Pictures. The film has been remastered and given a commentary track, a video essay, and interviews. The folks at Imprint Films in Australia have a double dose of John Woo on 4K UHD Blu-Ray from the Golden Princess library. The lighthearted crime outing Once a Thief starring Chow Yun-fat and the gritty thriller Bullet in the Head starring Tony Leung hit 4K UHD Blu-Ray featuring new 4K masters from the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. These releases include commentary tracks, interviews, and more.
The team at the Warner Archive has a dazzling slate of new Blu-Ray releases this month. The label has its latest Hanna-Barbera release with Dastardly & Muttley in Their Flying Machines: The Complete Series featuring all 17 episodes from 4K scans of the Original Camera Negative. The release comes with featurettes and commentary tracks.
We keep things lighthearted with the long-awaited release of Come Live With Me from the lovely pairing of James Stewart and Hedy Lamarr about a marriage of convenience that turns into more. Stewart also makes an appearance in the romantic outing Rose-Marie, starring the beloved duo Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. Elsewhere, Cary Grant takes on the life of Cole Porter in the musical biopic Night and Day alongside Alexis Smith. All of these releases come from the 4K masters with shorts, cartoons, radio programs, and more.
Fans of classic Hollywood melodrama will want to pay attention to the long-unavailable Letty Lynton starring Joan Crawford on Blu-Ray from a 4K restoration from the Best Preservation Elements. Crawford is also joined by Clark Gable in Strange Cargo, debuting on Blu-Ray from a 4K scan of the Best Preservation Elements. Spencer Tracy lends his star power to the war picture Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, which premieres on Blu-Ray with some Tom & Jerry cartoons, short films, and more.
