Original Iron Man Test Footage Features a ‘Darker’ Tony Stark

Robert Downey Jr. is ageless. To prove that, the Hollywood Reporter tweeted out test footage of Downey for the original Iron Man movie. Iron Man one was released ten years ago and is what started off the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Essentially the godfather of the MCU, there has now been twenty films in total and there doesn’t seem like any plans to stop. Though Tony Stark is known for being arrogant, witty, funny, and have massive anxiety problems that o one seems to talk about, Downey’s original take was much darker, as you can see below.

It’s hard to think of Tony Stark as any other way than what he was and I’m not sure that Iron Man would have had the success that it did if they had gone with the original direction. I think this could partly be due to the fact that Jon Favreau ended up directing the first film, which he says that he got the opportunity to do after his involvement with Elf. Bringing in that light humor to Iron Man helped give a good balance to the serious and heartfelt moments that the movie no doubt had and really set the tone for the MCU.

Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Tony Stark for Avengers 4 on Mary 3, 2019.
