With Game of Thrones coming to a close, HBO is moving full ahead with their planned prequel. As reported by Deadline, Oscar nominated actress Naomi Watts has been signed as one of the female leads for the new series. Watts will be playing a “charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” Further details have been closely guarded by HBO as is their normal mode. Here’s what we do know besides Watts casting.

The new as of yet unnamed prequel will be set, “thousands of years before the events of Game Of Thrones. It chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend…” It will be written by Kingsman and X-Men screenwriter Jane Goldman and will be an ensemble show much like it’s predecessor as HBO President of programming Casey Bloys explains:

There are very strong female characters but it’s an ensemble, there is men and women. Jane is a very good writer, we don’t want to limit her to writing female leads. There are a lot of very complicated leads in (the pilot).

And now we know one of those leads. How do you feel about Naomi Watts joining the Game of Thrones prequel? More importantly, this being a Game of Throne’s series, how long will her character survive? Share your thoughts on the hire and what you hope to see on the show with GVNation.
