Ghostface will return to haunt and hunt a new generation of Woodsboro survivors. After the success of last month’s reboot sequel, the Scream franchise will continue with another installment set to start principal photography this summer.
An article in Deadline confirmed that Radio Silence’s Matt Bettineli-Olphin and Tyler Gillett will once again direct, with screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick returning to co-write the script. Franchise creator, Kevin Williamson, will executive produce alongside Radio Silence’s own Chad Villella. Spy Glass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre will also executive produce. Project X Entertainment, along with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak will also serve as producers.
The latest installment recently surpassed $100 million at the global box office, leaving Paramount and Spyglass eager to capitalize on the success of the revitalized property. Since debuting in 1996, Scream has been known for parodying the clichés of the horror movie genre, while actively subverting them.
The latest film, the franchise’s fifth installment, offered commentary on horror movie requels (reboot sequels) while the characters are trying to survive one. The cast included Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mikey Madison, Kyle Gallner, Dylan Minnette, Jack Quaid, Marley Shelton and Sonia Ammar.
