Man with a beard and long goatee wearing a patched vest talks to someone outdoors, with trees in the background.

Paul Walter Hauser, known for his endearing portrayal of Stingray in Netflix’s Cobra Kai, has expressed initial hesitation about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) upcoming Fantastic Four movie. His reluctance stemmed from the historical challenges previous adaptations of the superhero team faced in delivering a successful and memorable cinematic experience. However, the prospect of reuniting with director Matt Shakman, with whom Hauser had collaborated during Season 6 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, ultimately swayed his decision.

As Hauser prepares to bid adieu to his beloved character Stingray in the final season of Cobra Kai, fans can anticipate a fitting “farewell” that honors the character’s journey. Hauser’s transition from the martial arts-driven world of Cobra Kai to the fantastical realm of the MCU marks a significant shift in his acting career. He will join an ensemble cast featuring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, and Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman. Despite his initial concerns, Hauser’s excitement about the new project is palpable.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hauser candidly shared his thoughts on taking the role:

“Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job. That movie has not fully been nailed just yet. But I really do think the combination of the screenplay, and the department heads that are working on the film, and that classy cast of really exciting actors — some of them known for a long time, and some of them having a moment right now — this movie is special. And it was something I wanted to be a part of.”

Hauser’s reflection highlights the high stakes and expectations surrounding the new Fantastic Four movie. The prior attempts to bring Marvel’s First Family to the big screen have been met with mixed reviews, leaving both fans and critics longing for a definitive and compelling adaptation. This history of underwhelming adaptations played a crucial role in Hauser’s decision-making process. Nevertheless, the collaborative efforts of a seasoned director like Matt Shakman and a talented cast convinced Hauser of the project’s potential.

Hauser’s decision to join the MCU signifies a vote of confidence in the film’s creative direction and the team behind it. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand and explore new stories, Hauser’s involvement adds a layer of anticipation and credibility to the forthcoming Fantastic Four movie. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how the combination of fresh talent and established actors will bring this iconic superhero team to life.

In conclusion, while Paul Walter Hauser was initially hesitant to join the Fantastic Four project, his confidence in the screenplay, the crew, and the cast ultimately led him to take the leap. As he transitions from Stingray to an undisclosed role in the MCU, audiences can look forward to Hauser’s unique charm and talent bringing a new dimension to the Marvel universe.
