Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Canceled After Only One Season

This is really dreadful news…Showtime has canceled Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. After only one season. After an epic finale. One that was opening up to something bigger. And now…I’m very upset.

Showtime released a statement:

“Showtime has decided not to move forward with another season of ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’. We would like to thank executive producers John Logan, Michael Aguilar and the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work on this project.”

Even though Showtime has seemed to not deem it worthy of a second season, I would still suggest checking it out. Taking place in the 1930s, City of Angels starred Nathan Lane, Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, Kerry Bishé, Rory Kinnear, Adriana Barraza, Michael Gladis, Jessica Garza, Johnathan Nieves. Natalie Dormer was superb. I loved Zovatto and Bishe gave a knockout performance. The show has racial tensions, police brutality, forbidden romance, crazy evangelicals, and demons.

Season one also holds a 75% critical approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
