This includes a long expected backwards compatibility to PlayStation 4 games. The real big news though is the increased loading speed for those older games as compared to the previous version.
In fact, in a recent investor meeting, Sony sampled a level from Marvel’s Spider-Man loading on both the PS4 and the PS5. During that demonstration, it revealed that the level took nearly eight seconds to load on the PS4, but loaded in less than a second on the PS5. If that wasn’t enough, the PS5 also supports 8K Televisions and 3D audio.
The built in compatibility is thought to make things easier for developers. The goal is to not require them to entirely rewrite their code to adapt a previous game. When added to the speed boost, it puts Sony in a favorable position to compete with the NexGen Xbox. The only remaining question is when will PlayStation 5 be released and how much will the price point be set at. At this time, it is thought to be being released in 2020. This is speculation only but since Sony has decided to pass on the E3 conference, it might mean they will have an announcement soon afterwards.
