Finn Jones was originally supposed to star in the upcoming crime-solver Fox TV show Prodigal Son. After an unsuccessful table read, he was decidedly replaced days after the announcement of the former Iron Fist star’s casting. Instead, The Walking Dead’s Tom Payne will be front and center for this series. Joining Payne is Halston Safe, Bellamy Younger, Michael Sheen, and Lou Diamond Phillips. Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver are the writers and executive producers. They’re both joined by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter as Eps. The pilot will be directed by Lee Toland Krieger.
Prodigal Son will premiere on Monday, September 23at 10 pm, which is an hour after it was originally intended to premiere.
Here is Fox’s official logline for the series:
A fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and a darkly comedic tone. Malcolm Bright knows how killers think. Why? His father was one of the best, a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon.” That’s why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. He uses his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes, while dealing with a somewhat manipulative mother, an annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son and his own constantly evolving neuroses.
