PS4’s ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ Swings off with New Sony Sales Records

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”6429″ img_size=”800×400″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]With all the recent stories of physical game shortages overseas and talks about what possible sequels might yield, it doesn’t take a MIT Grad to realize that Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4 just might be kind of popular. But you don’t have to take MY word for it as the recently released sales figures for Insomniac Games recent Spider-Man launch speak for themselves and what they say is Ca-CHING!

Initial sales figures for the first three days since the game launched on PlayStation 4, saw it selling over 3.3 million copies. That’s 3.3 with the six zeros attached. When taken into context with that OTHER Spider-Man release that was kind of a big deal at the time IT was released, and you realize that the game exceeded the sales that the film Spider-Man Homecoming achieved during its release. Which is impressive when you consider that ANYONE could go see a movie but only PS4 owners could or would buy the game.

For those who immediately broke out their slide rules and abacus, that comes to around $199 million dollars and that doesn’t include bundle sales. Again, not wanting to make Spider-Man Homecoming feel bad, but it earned $117 million in its opening weekend. Not that I would turn THAT kind of money down. In addition, the pre-order sales exceeded that of God of War, which was the previous Sony record holder.

So what does all this teach us? What I get out of it is, attach the name Spider-Man to a well made, quality product and you can be like Louie Anderson becoming Assistant Manager in Coming to America. “That’s when the BIG BUCKS come rolling in.”

For those of you gamers who helped contribute to Sony’s and Insomniac Games coffers, are you satisfied with the game? Did it meet or exceed your hopes for the Spider-Man you all know and love? Share your statistical breakdown with us at GVNation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
