With JJ Abrams Kelvin timeline of Star Trek films stuck in Ember, there has been talk of other possible Star Trek films. Specifically, Quentin Tarantino had discussed with JJ Abrams about the possibility of an R-Rated version. This would not have even been approached until after Tarantino finished Once Upon a Time.
Now that he is finished with his film, he apparently has had second thoughts about helming his proposed version. He discussed this in a recent interview with Deadline:
I think they might make that movie, but I just don’t think I’m going to direct it. It’s a good idea. They should definitely do it and I’ll be happy to come in and give them some notes on the first rough cut.
While the thoughts of Tarantino doing a Star Trek film was revealed, nothing of the story line was ever revealed. Since then, Paramount has not given up on the Star Trek franchise. They have approached Legion and Fargo creator Noah Hawley to possibly write and direct a new Star Trek movie. Hawley has even suggested he might employ an all-new cast.
Are you disappointed that a Tarantino directed Star Trek film might be off the table? Share your thoughts on the direction Paramount should warp toward when it comes to Star Trek. We at Geek Vibes Nation await your briefing.
