Quentin Tarantino Wanted To Make a Luke Cage Movie With Laurence Fishburne as Titular Character

Way before Mike Colter brought Luke Cage to life in the now-canceled Netflix series, a famous director wanted to bring the iconic superhero to the big screen.

The Wrap has reported that Quentin Tarantino had wanted to make a Luke Cage film. He wanted Laurence Fishburne to play the titular character, but apparently his “comic geek friends” disliked this casting choice. They wanted Wesley Snipes for the role, which essentially killed Tarantino’s idea for this film.

“All my friends were like, ‘It’s got to be Wesley Snipes,’” Tarantino recalled. “And I go, ‘Look, I like Wesley Snipes, but Larry Fishburne is practically Marlon Brando. I think Fish is the man.’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, but he’d have to get in shape in a big way. Snipes is that way already!’ And I go, ‘F–k that! That’s not that important! F–k you, you ruined the whole damn thing!’”

Would you have wanted to see Fishburne play Luke Cage? What would a Luke Cage film by Tarantino look like?
