Matilda the Musical is getting a film adaptation and apparently, Ralph Fiennes is in talks to join the movie. According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Fiennes is set to play the evil headmistress Mrs. Trunchbull. The musical has been running since 2010 and Matthew Warchus will be directing the movie; he also oversaw the musical.
This will be Fiennes’ first experience in a musical.
There are rumors that Emma Stone is being looked at for the role of Miss Honey, who was the kind-hearted teacher who ended up adopting Matilda at the end of the movie. According to reports, casting directors are looking for someone young, no taller than 4’3” to play Matilda.
Matilda was originally adapted into a movie back in 1996, which was directed by Danny DeVito. DeVito also played Matilda’s father (played by Mara Wilson) and Pam Ferris played Trunchbull.
