Reports Suggest Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Trilogy Is Still Alive

Despite the mixed reaction to The Rise of Skywalker, Star Wars fans are cautiously optimistic about the upcoming entry from Oscar-winner Taika Waititi, tentatively eyed for 2024. The Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit director has the unique creative sensibility to really breathe some new life into the franchise. As exciting as this is, fans should not forget about the previously-announced Rian Johnson trilogy that is also in development. The Last Jedi may have inspired some passionate feelings, but Johnson regained some love after the immense success of the fantastic Knives Out. Although we may have not heard any developments for a while, that does not necessarily mean the trilogy is in trouble.

LRM Online reports that a source inside LucasFilms has stated that the Rian Johnson trilogy is still on track to be released after Waititi’s entry drops. The company is giving Johnson time to refine the trilogy as well as develop a sequel to Knives Out. If there is one thing we know about Star Wars films, it is that they should not be rushed to development. Johnson is an immensely talented writer, and it is worth giving him the benefit of the doubt to see what he can do with a clean slate in the Star Wars universe.

Are you interested in seeing a Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy? Are you looking forward to this trilogy or the planned Waititi entry more? Sound off over on Twitter with your thoughts.
