Review: The Mandalorian Is Back With A 2nd Season and Hopefully, There’s More Timothy Olyphant

Disney+’s The Mandalorian made quite a splash last year when it premiered. Arguably one of the best things to come out of the Star Wars universe, I couldn’t wait for the second season to start. Luckily, I now don’t need to wait any longer as the first episode of season two premiered today! We may have to wait for the Marvel shows to premiere on Disney+, but at least for the next seven weeks, we have Mando.

Non-Spoiler Review

So much happened in season one and the finale left a lot of possibilities. Moff Gideon is alive and wielding the Darksaber. Mando got his jetpack and vowed to take the Child aka Baby Yoda back to its people. So, you would expect that the first episode of season two would be more story-driven. In reality, it’s not. Not until the very end – which, was very cool.

Instead, season two’s opening was what we love most about The Mandalorian – Mando on missions with Baby Yoda in tow. Mando returns to the planet of Tatooine and there meets Cobb Vanth – played by Timothy Olyphant. Listen, Olyphant being in the Mandalorian is a match made in heaven. The Mandalorian is essentially a space Western and Olyphant is best in a “Western” sort of atmosphere. I enjoyed how his character was introduced – it was a surprise for both Mando and the viewer. I really hope this isn’t a one-off appearance – though, The Mandalorian is pretty good in having characters pop back up.

Episode one of season two had a lot of little Easter eggs from the original trilogy and the prequels. It explored the Sand people further. And of course, had adorable Baby Yoda moments. Episode one doesn’t entirely feel necessary to the plot, but that’s because we don’t know what’s happening in season two yet. This could be very pivotable and the ending does feature a return of a very well-known Star Wars character. So, that’s very cool.

Rating: 4/5

I don’t feel this episode was the most exciting episode particularly, but I still enjoyed it and liked Mando and Cobb’s dynamic together. I cannot wait for the next episode and I’m glad The Mandalorian is back!
