Wu Assassins Review (2019)

Is Wu Assassins the most excellent show of all time? For me, it is not, but I will say this. Many people will enjoy Wu Assassins, especially if you love action.

Wu Assassins gave me the vibes of The Witcher and Avatar the Last Air Bender. In both good and bad ways, from the action, character interaction/ development, CGI, mythology and the writing.

The character interactions were all incredible, but I would love to highlight one specific character, and that is Lawrence Kao’s character, Tommy Wao. Every time Tommy was on screen for me, you can tell he was struggling with something, and you felt for him. There was a scene where Tommy got help, and he truly believes he wants to do good, but it is hard for him because of his addiction. Lawrence Kao played that role with perfection. That being said, the character were all incredible, but Tommy was just the one that stood out to me the most.

It is a shame that Wu Assassin has better action sequences than most films out there. Do you know how in some movies the editing is just done too much, that you can’t see anything or gives you a headache? Well with Wu Assassin the editing was so precise in each action sequence I could not help but be mesmerized. There is a specific scene where Kai and Uncle six are in a restaurant not only is the action in that scene perfection, but the theme in that scene is significant.

Which brings me to my next point; themes, Wu Assassin has a strong identity about Family, Loyalty, and the struggles of Asian-American which are the big highlights of the show, other than the action. At the same time, Wu Assassins does struggle a lot with dialogue and moments in the show seems to drag or feel a bit repetitive.

Wu Assassin could have been better without the supernatural elements, not only did the supernatural scenes feel weird most of the time. It was also hard to follow or understand what they were going for in this series.

Overall this was one hell of a time! Filled with great moments such as action, character interactions, and themes, but the lack of attention in their dialogue, overall mythology, and unpolished CGI makes me feel this team can do so much better. Let us hope we can get a season two and they will focus more on Dialogue and CGI this will be one of the best Netflix series.

Now should you watch this series? Yes, especially for the beautiful action sequences and character moments.
