Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ Will Get a Sequel

Ridley Scott has officially begun moving forward on a sequel for the popular 2000 film which raked in about 11 Oscar nominations and five wins. While Russel Crowe’s character, Maximus; meets his end in the original movie, the sequel will following the story of Lucius, who is the son of Lucilla. Lucius was the new of Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix, who is now fully immersed in filming the upcoming Joker film.

Gladiator 2 is being let by Scott and his Scott Free banner; sources say Scott wants to direct and that they are settling on Peter Craig, who is working on the Top Gun: Maverick film. Considering how Maximus will be a tough act to follow, there have been enough years that have passed since the original, so it’s time for a new focal point for Gladiator 2.
