Ruby Rose Announces Exit From ‘Batwoman’ Series After One Season

In what is surely a huge shocker, Ruby Rose has announced that she will not be returning for the second season of the CW series Batwoman. Ruby made a statement earlier today saying

“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season, This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”

Ruby would also thank Greg Berlanti and others for her time on the show and the opportunity

“I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created, Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”

No reason for her exit has been given. They did say that this has nothing to do with the injury she sustained while filming. This comes a complete surprise to many because the season finale offered fans a glimpse into what might possibly be a huge second season involving Bruce Wayne himself, played by Warren Christie.  Ruby was so delighted to get the role of Batwoman so I, like many others are wondering why she would suddenly leave. A two hour crossover event with the new Superman and Lois series was planned for next season. While WB and CW are looking to recast, one has to wonder if this might delay the second season even more.

WB and CW released a statement thanking Ruby for her time and making season one a success.

“Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best,” the two companies said. “The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

We will continue to monitor this story and bring you more as we hear about it. Are you just as shocked as we are about Ruby leaving? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
