Rumor: The 93rd Oscars May Be Postponed

With all of the movies being postponed and delayed, it should make sense that the award season may be postponed as well. After all, the options would be very slim in every category. The 93rd Oscars are set to premiere in February, but the source says that it probably will get pushed back.

One source close to Variety stated:

“It’s likely they’ll be postponed.”

Keep in kind that this is all speculation right now. Nothing has been set in stone and as you can imagine, everything needs to be played close to the chest when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Academy president David Rubin did say that it is too soon to say if the award show will be postponed:

“It’s impossible to know what the landscape will be. We know we want to celebrate film but we do not know exactly what form it will take.”

With movie theaters shut down, more filmmakers have had to wait patiently for audiences to enjoy their films or have them released digitally. Rubin expressed:

“I think everyone is sympathetic to the filmmakers’ plight and we’re here to support our members and the film community. It makes sense when we don’t really know what’s to come in terms of the availability of theatrical exhibition. … We need to make allowances for this year only and during this time when theaters are not open so great film work can be seen and celebrated.”

As we find out more we will let you know.
