Texas Resident Gets Felony Charge From 21 Years Ago For Not Returning Sabrina the Teenage Witch VHS

Listen, we’ve all been there. Everyone has forgotten to return a library book or a VHS tape – back when you could rent a VHS tape. Remember Blockbuster, fellow Millennials and Gen X? For most of us, nothing ever really came of it – especially with VHS tapes, considering they’re not even around anymore.

However, and this feels like the most time-warp thing I have ever heard; a former Oklahoma resident has been charged with a felony for not returning a twenty-one-year-old Sabrina the Teenage Witch VHS tape. What year is it again?

Texas resident Caron McBride found out about the twenty-one-year-old felony after recently going to the DMV to get her last name changed on her license. The oddest part of it? McBride cannot remember renting Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She says she’s never seen an episode or movie.

McBride claims that it must have been her boyfriend at the time, who had two young daughters then. McBride explained:

“He had to have. I know I didn’t.”

As for finding out about the felony, McBride added:

“I called it and the lady… looked up the reference number and told me it was a felony embezzlement. I thought I was going to have a heart attack.”

Never fear though, the felony charge was dropped once the court realized the charge was due to a VHS tape not being returned 21 years ago. I got to now check that I don’t have any unreturned Blockbuster tapes lying around…

What’d you think about this crazy story?
