According to THR, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Jurnee Smolett-Bell are both testing for Black Canary. Canary is a name that many heroines use and though we have Canary in the Arrowverse, we already know the TV Arrowverse is separate from the movie DCEU.
As for the other well-known role of Huntress, Margaret Qualley, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Cristin Milioti have all read for the part. It seems like Birds of Prey is really doing their due diligence to make sure they grab the right actress for each role, knowing how big the film is going to be.
Deadline also reports that Sofia Boutella is in the running for the role of Huntress. Boutella is best known for her role in 2017’s The Mummy, the latest installment of The Mummy series, made famous by Brendan Fraser.
For the part of Rene Montoya, a lesbian detective on Gotham’s police force; could potentially go to either Justina Machado and Roberta Colindrez.
