Back in 2017, Predator director Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) promised that his predator reboot would be rated R. Now Fox has recently confirmed that Black will be getting an R-Rating for his version of The Predator.

While you may be thinking that it should have been a forgone conclusion that Black’s The Predator would be released with an R-Rating, in the current movie climate, that’s no longer a given. Many movies enter pre-production or make it all the way through filming under the assumption that they’ll be R-Rated, only to have it changed to PG -13. This happened to Sony’s Venom which was originally slated to be rated R.

It was this thinking that drove Fox’s other film New Mutants which originally was being filmed as an R-Rated horror film to rethink their strategy after test screenings. But as for The Predator, this week we received confirmation that it would still fall under the rated R banner for “Strong bloody violence, language throughout, and crude sexual references.”

One only need to see the success of such films as Deadpool and Logan to see that it would make sense that the studio would stick to their guns in this matter.  It was Fox’s decision to adhere to the creative demands of their directors even though there was a risk of alienating (so to speak) their comic book fans. Of course, a movie with an R rating doesn’t guarantee you a box office hit either. All fan’s know a good script and casting that will ultimately bring a vision to life from paper to the screen. By September, the fans will know for sure if this decision was correct for The Predator or not.

Does an R-Rating make you hesitate when selecting which movie you will go see? Or do the actors and the subject matter take priority? How does an R-rated The Predator sound? Your platform to express your opinion is here at GVNation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
