Shazam! Producer Says The Suicide Squad Is NOT a Sequel, Confirms Title

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”19271″ img_size=”970×545″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]While it’s been said that the upcoming Suicide Squad movie would be a complete relaunch, we are getting confirmation that Viola Davis will reprise her role as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney may be returning as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman might be reprising his role as Rick Flagg. Add on top of that that Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn and Idris Elba is replacing Will Smith as Deadshot, it doesn’t necessarily feel like a relaunch. Still, Shazam!’s producer Peter Safran was adamant that it is not a sequel.

“It’s called The Suicide Squad,’ Shazam! producer Peter Safran told ComicBook.com. “It’s not Suicide Squad 2. It is not a sequel. I will leave that alone but, yes, it’s called The Suicide Squad.”

James Gunn, who has recently been rehired by Disney, will be directing and writing the script for this “not sequel”. Whatever it is they seem to identify it as, it is seeming to have at least some connection the 2016 version of the film, considering how many actors and characters are returning. Still, it has been stated that characters like Ratcatcher and Peacemaker, as well as King Shark will be in this film. So, what about the others? Should we assume they had died and that was the reason why they aren’t in the movie?
