Sit on the Iron Throne in New Reigns: Game of Thrones Mobile Game

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”3787″ img_size=”600×338″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_rounded”][vc_column_text]The popular swipe mobile game is getting a much anticipated update and adding the hit television show as it’s theme! If you don’t know what Reigns is, don’t feel bad, I didn’t either. So evidently, it’s a mobile game that costs about $3 that’s available on ios, Android, and PC. The basis of the game is you want to reign as long as you can by balancing the power of four factions: military, church, people, and wealth. With each round, you’re asked to make one of two choices by swiping right or left. Each decision will cause the factions to rise and fall in power; if one faction gets too weak or too powerful, your reign at the top comes to an often-violent end. Though it can take several deaths to understand how decisions will influence the world, there is a logic to it, and balancing does compel the narrative in surprising ways. The first version released in August 2016, while version 2, Reigns: Her Majesty, released in December 2017.

So what makes Reigns: Game of Thrones different? Well, for starters instead of ruling a kingdom, you’re ruling Westeros. You can also play as characters from the show, unlocking more characters as you go. From my understanding, you have the opportunity to start as Daenerys, Sansa, Cersei, Tyrion, or Jon, then based on who you choose, the characters that approach you are actually from the show (ie: Arya Stark, Bronn, Tywin, Missandei, Davos, etc). The gameplay itself is also a little different. When your character gets overthrown and dies, it cuts to Melissandre looking into the flames to decipher what went wrong and consoling with the Lord of Light. Another big difference, reported by Ross Miller of Polygon, was that you can select branching paths; meaning you could go to a tavern or a cave instead of just making choices that doesn’t directly impact your character at that time. Miller also said the build he played introduced a mode that involved staring down characters in the game using the front face camera on your phone; however, he said it looked like it was still being tested.

Either way, it will be nice to get a new Game of Thrones game, especially on mobile. Reigns: Game of Thrones is expected to release in October of this year, and is available for pre-order in some countries. Season 8 of Game of Thrones is expected to debut in the first half of 2019.
