A psychological thriller starring Casey Affleck and Laurence Fishburne, SLINGSHOT follows an elite trio of astronauts aboard a years-long, possibly compromised mission to Saturn’s moon Titan. As the team gears up for a highly dangerous slingshot maneuver that will either catapult them to Titan or into deep space, it becomes increasingly difficult for one astronaut to maintain his grip on reality.

Video Quality
Decal Releasing brings Slingshot to Blu-Ray with a great 1080p video presentation. The image is crisp and clean with the purposefully antiseptic shuttle revealing rich textures on the screen. You will not find many brilliant hues on display, but the colors in the background achieve the appropriate amount of depth. Flesh tones are natural with a significant amount of detail such as age lines present in close-ups. The futuristic production design and suits reveal so much character in the intricacies. Black levels are largely deep with no egregious instances of digital noise. There is some light banding and other minor digital quirks that keep the transfer from being a true knockout. Nevertheless, this is a high quality release from the label.
Audio Quality
This Blu-Ray comes with a fantastic DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that captures this soundscape without a hiccup. Environmental sounds of the world effectively saturate the surround speakers. Ambient sounds are carefully placed in the rear channels for a fully three-dimensional experience. Dialogue is the focus of the film, and it always comes through clearly without being clipped by any competing sounds. The effective score flows through the speakers with crisp fidelity. Some moments add texture to the low end, but it is not a standout in this respect. The audio track delivers everything that is asked of it. Optional English SDH and Spanish subtitles are provided.

Final Thoughts
Slingshot is impressive when it comes to replicating a sprawling space drama within the confines of a conservative budget. Through careful editing and creative maneuvering, you amass a sense of scale that is a joy to observe. The narrative is a bit repetitive and somewhat nonsensical, but we largely connect with what the film is trying to say. It has many shortcomings, but it has enough going for it to check out. Decal Releasing has released a Blu-Ray featuring a strong A/V presentation but no supplemental features. Recommended
Slingshot will be available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD on October 22, 2024.
