Video Quality
Slopes Game Room: Arcade Classics – The Complete History Vol. 1 arrives on Blu-Ray from ETR Media with a pleasant HD master which lives up to its full potential. This release features ten short documentary films and bonus features that total over five hours of material. Even with so much material being packed on a single disc, the quality stays in great shape throughout. While this may be content made for YouTube, these meticulously constructed shorts have been updated with better-quality gameplay and editing. We appreciate when anything uniquely cool can be added to our collection in enviable quality, and these Slope’s Game Room releases continue to delight on all fronts.
The material matches the structure of the previous releases. You have a blend of newer talking head bits with DJ Slope in tandem with the gameplay footage, marketing clips, and photos for a well-rounded look at the history of each title. All footage appears to be derived from the most stable origins possible. With many of these titles being from the ‘80s, there is a ceiling to the visual quality. The gameplay footage is relatively locked in, but the newly generated material looks exceptional with a crisp image and sterling colors. Each segment looks really nice with natural skin tones and some complex facial features. The encoding does not falter with compression artifacts or digital nuisances. ETR Media will make us happy if they keep this line going for a while.
Audio Quality
This Blu-Ray release does not provide lossless audio, but it does feature a decent Dolby Digital 2.0 track that executes the soundscape well enough. There are no serious digital anomalies or other issues. This is primarily a narrated video with the complementary sounds accompanying the gameplay footage. It’s a straight down the middle, agreeable stereo track, so the material is not going to rock your world, but it is appropriate considering its origins. The narration is the focal point as you get this expertly researched presentation delivered in a stable environment. Any competing elements come through with noble fidelity. This track could maybe be the slightest bit enhanced with a lossless presentation, but considering the material, we are not losing sleep over it. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided.
