Sneaky Pete Review: The Show You Should Be Watching

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”11874″ img_size=”900×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]From the minds of David Shore and Bryan Cranston comes the crime drama Sneaky Pete. How is it that this show, which has two seasons; has such a small fanbase? Seriously, I binged both seasons within two days. That’s the review, folks.

Seriously, though; people around me had told me to start watching this series and with not much else to watch, I tuned in. Best decision, because this is seriously an amazing show to watch. If you like smart, dangerous, on the edge of your seat storyline, you need to turn on Amazon Prime and watch. Starring Giovanni Ribisi, the actor plays convicted criminal Marius Josipović who assumes the identity of his cellmate Pete Murphy in order to get away from his old life, where he was a con man. A really good one too. But, life has a way of catching up and not only is he trying to deal with being Marius, but also trying to deal with being Pete.

Let’s get through the unrealistic part really quick. Although it’s been about two decades since the real Pete has seen his estranged family, how does everyone seem to take it at face value that Marius (pretending to be Pete) is really Pete once he shows up at their doorsteps? That aside, every episode is filled with drama, the threat of consequences, and some big con that even tricks you in the end.

Besides Ribisi, the main cast consists of Marin Ireland, Peter Gerety, and Margo Martindale. Even though the show mainly focuses around Marius/Pete and the insanity that happens there, I have to say the most compelling storyline is between Gerety’s Otto and Martindale’s Audrey. We see something really authentic between the two and I’m sure many can see either themselves or their grandparents within them. Two people who have been together for a long time and have been through a lot of crap that is a lot of baggage, but when a threat presents itself we see how much these two truly love each other, and all that other stuff seems to fade away.

Of course, I have to give honorable mentions to Cranston’s Vince, who is wickedly dangerous, and reminds us how strong of an actor he is. While he is not present always, his character drives much of the first season. I also particularly enjoyed Jacob Pitts’s Lance Lord, who portrayed a pretty sneaky scumbag, but whose motives in the second season somewhat redeemed him.

Overall, this is a show you are not going to want to miss. Like an addictive book, Sneaky Pete is a series you won’t turn off until you’re finished. The great thing is that the show has been renewed for a third season, so we’ll be able to get more of the Bowmans soon![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
