Sony Announces PlayStation Classic’s and It’s Official Release Date

Sony has officially announced the PlayStation Classic, a remaster of sorts of the original PS1 along with some titles the game will have, its official release date and even some of the specs of the console to get tech nerds and retro gamers such as myself to get extremely excited.

The console officially releases December 3rd, 2018  in Japan, North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand and will be retailing for £89.99/$99.99 which isn’t as bad as I was expected to be fair. The PlayStation Classic will be in limited quantities however so if you want it you’ve got to be snappy about it.

As for those 20 preloaded games I mentioned earlier well we already have some confirmed titles, those being Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, and more classic titles will be announced later on in the year.

Now you might be bethinking that the controller in the image above has been blown out of proportion but nope that’s down to the PlayStation Classic being 45% smaller than the original package with Sony trying to emulate the original experience as close as they possibly can. Heres a size comparison to show you how small this thing actually is:

Each unit will include an HDMI and USB cable, and 2 wired controllers based off the original PlayStation controller rather than the original DualShock controller.

When speaking about the PlayStation Classic Sony Stated: “Long-time fans will appreciate the nostalgia that comes with rediscovering the games they know and love, while gamers who might be new to the platform can enjoy the groundbreaking PlayStation console experience that started it all.”

When it comes to my thoughts on this it is seriously cool. Retro gaming is growing more and more recently and even though games today might stomp original PlayStation Games in terms of controls or graphics they’ll never come to close to the memories you have of them or the nostalgia you’ll feel when playing them. What games do you want to see announced for this thing later down the line? Personally, I’d love to see Resident Evil, Spyro, one of PlayStations flagship titles Crash Bandicoot, and one of my favorites from my childhood Tomb Raider who of course started her life on the Original Playstation.
