Spider-Man: Far From Home Releases New TV Spot; Peter Parker Tries to Recruit Mysterio for the Avengers

I have expressed my excitement for Spider-Man: Far From Home a multitude of times. The latest TV spot just adds to that excitement. Give it a watch here

We will see Nick Fury bringing Spider-Man in to take down the elemental monsters we see in the trailers. In the TV spot, Fury states he is looking for an Avenger, which is why Spider-Man gets the call. Also needing a team, Peter Parker decides to recruit Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio into a new Avengers team. While Tom Holland’s Spidey is good at heart and believes Mysterio to be on the good side, we know that he is a villain in the comics. Fans are just waiting for the movie to see when and if it’s revealed that Quentin Beck was tricking everyone all along.

Far From home returns after the events of Avengers: Endgame. We do see Spidey dealing with Tony Stark’s death in the trailers, but director Jon Watts assures fans this is not an “emo” Spider-Man:

“[This] isn’t the start of a new, dark ’emo’ phase for Peter. Even though he’s gone through all these dramatic and traumatic events, he’s still the same Peter Parker we know and love. It’s seeing how he deals with those things that’s interesting for me.”

I can surmise that this is a little bit of a jab to Tobey Maguire’s third Spider-Man, which was in the height of the “emo phase”. As much as the third installment is made fun of, fans do still adore Maguire’s rendition of the character and have been looking for ways to get him into Holland’s Spider-Man world.

Jake Gyllenhaal was once upon a time up for grabs for the character of Peter Parker. We can all agree we’re happy he’s gotten the role of Mysterio. Do you think Mysterio will be a “good guy” in this MCU or he’s been tricking Peter all along?

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2.
