[Spoilers] Bella Ramsey Talks Lady Mormont’s Moment in Game of Thrones’ Battle for Winterfell

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”20826″ img_size=”850×559″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Probably one of the more surprising deaths on last night’s episode was that of Lady Mormunt during the Battle for Winterfell. Last night’s Game of Thrones was an insane episode in which the people of the North, as well as the Dorthraki, the Unsullied, and many others had to battle against the White Walkers. The battle was fierce and despite Lyanna Mormunt being a young leader, she insisted on fighting alongside her people. We expected fatalities, but it is most likely that no one expected Lady Mormunt to die by the Wight Giant crushing her to death, though; she was able to take him down with her. Thus, still remaining a little badass, even in death.

The actress, Bella Ramsey; spoke with EW about her character – who was only meant to be in one scene, but was brought back due to the actress’s talent and the positive response towards her character.

“Lyanna Mormont was just supposed to be in one scene, but Bella is such an incredible actress that we kept bringing her back because we wanted more Bella.” – Creator David Benioff expressed.

Here are bits from her interview:

Dan and David told me they originally only thought of you for only one scene?

“Yeah, it was originally gonna just be one bit.”

And they kept writing more for you. Fans love your character. What’s all the attention been like for you?

“I didn’t think it was going to be anything. I just thought that I turned up and did it. When [the fan reaction] kicked up it was mad. I didn’t expect it.”

How did your friends react?

“They thought it was pretty cool. It was just kind-of sudden. I was filming The Worst Witch when it came out. It was a bit crazy really.”

Ramsey was then asked about her character’s death in the most recent episode:

Were you disappointed Lyanna’s story didn’t go further?

“Her story maybe had the potential to grow but she was going to go at some point because everyone does and this way she went was the best way she could have.”

You’ve had so many great lines on the show. Which is your favorite?

“I don’t care if he is a bastard, Ned Stark’s blood runs through his veins!” I love that.”

What did you think of Lady Mormunt’s death and how did the Battle for Winterfell measure up to the Battle of the Bastards for you?
