It also closes the book on Star Wars films for the foreseeable future, even though Disney+ has the Mandalorian series. So much is unknown about The Rise of Skywalker, but we have a small taste of what’s to come from star Oscar Isaac.
Isaac plays Poe Dameron in the recent trilogy and he teases that this final movie will show the outcome of the “chess match” that has been played between the Sith and the Jedi:
“What’s amazing about the story and the script is that you learn that both the Sith and the Jedi have been playing a very long game. From the get-go, there’s been this chess match. All these pieces have been played. And now we get to see who gets checkmate.”
Director J.J. Abrams also discussed how challenging it is to construct the ending to this saga:
“The ending of this trilogy of trilogies is a tricky thing. This movie has to work on its own. It’s got to have its own beginning, middle, and end. It can’t make the mistake of a lot of sequels, where you just assume a character is beloved, where the movie suffers because the character is suddenly lacking. We can’t assume anyone cares.”
